The Ministry of Health has announced that a nationwide recruitment exercise for health professionals will begin on April 16, 2026, following the granting of financial clearance by the government. The exercise is scheduled to run until December 31, 2026, in line with the validity period of the approval.
The recruitment will be decentralised and managed at the district level, with each district health directorate responsible for filling verified vacancies in its jurisdiction. This approach is intended to strengthen staffing in rural and underserved communities and ensure that health workers are deployed where they are most needed.
The Ministry has described the process as competitive, transparent, and fair, guided by an approved quota system that covers all professional cadres and year groups. This includes doctors, nurses, midwives, medical laboratory scientists, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals. All appointments are to be made within approved budgetary limits to ensure financial discipline and sustainability.

The Ministry has advised qualified health professionals to monitor official channels including the Ministry of Health website, social media platforms, and district health offices for vacancy announcements and application guidelines. Applicants are encouraged to prepare their documents in advance, such as licenses, academic certificates, and professional registration proofs, to facilitate a smooth application process.

The nationwide recruitment forms part of the government’s broader agenda to strengthen healthcare delivery and address persistent staff shortages in public health facilities. By aligning recruitment with the Free Primary Healthcare initiative and other national health reforms, the Ministry aims to improve patient access to quality care and enhance the performance of the country’s health system.
